jama'ate islami hind udupi conduct rally and public program
The Karnataka and Goa Chief of the Jamaat E Islami Hind Abdullah Javed has stressed on the need to establish peace in the society at all costs in the country.
Mr. Javed was speaking at a public meeting organised by the Udupi district unit of the Jamaat on the occasion of the arrival of peace and justice caravan in Udupi. He said the community was suffering due to the outbreak of terrorism and communalism which were taking control of the society. He said there were an estimated 50,000 incidents of communal violence in the country in the last 60 years. The people should get together irrespective of their communities to combat the communal elements in whichever communities they are in.
Mr.Javed said all communal and religious practices should be confined to the indoors of houses of the practitioner. There was no need to bring religious issues to the roads where the common man was susceptible to unwanted violence and acrimony.
Intellectual and former journalist Mr. Varadesh Hiregange on this occasion stated that peace without freedom of speech and freedom to follow their religions was not peace at all. He said it was need of the hour that everyone of us has to understand, respect and accept diversities of various religions.
Parish Priest of Balkunje Church William Martis said that it was atrocious to brand an entire community as terrorist just because one of the misled elements in that community happened to have had some relation with terror elements.
Vittaldas Bannanje welcomed the gathering. National secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Iqbal Mullah presided over the meeting. U. Anwar Ali proposed a vote of thanks.
